Flower enables balancing of energy in large systems so that fossil based generators may be replaced

Flower Tech, a name that sounds beautiful, is not about growing flowers with tech - the company provides flexibility in the energy system. With AI and advanced algorithms, Flower helps industries to use renewable sources of energy in their power plants. Flower's mission is to drastically increase available flexibility to support the renewable electrification of everything.

We must replace fossil-based power generation like natural gas and coal, with sustainable power generation. To build a robust and sustainable power system we need more flexibility, which can come in the form of large batteries. Our Power Refinery platform balances the power system on a second-by-second basis using machine learning, batteries and much more” says John Diklev, Founder and CEO.

Flower provides a Power Refinery platform that for example can control chargers of electric vehicles to optimize their charging pattern. Flower can pause and resume charging to reduce electricity costs or provide essential grid services. Other clients include large energy users like steel plants, data centers, energy power providers and large-scale battery parks. Flower has clients in Finland and Denmark as well as several development projects in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium and France.

I studied Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH in Stockholm, and flexibility from aggregated energy resources was the core of my idea for a master's thesis subject. I concluded the thesis during the start of the pandemic and jobs were scarce, so I resorted to raising capital to realise this idea into a business, and it could not have been better timing. We have had a nice expansion, and after three years we have grown rapidly and now employ 45 people” says John Diklev.

Flower has raised several rounds since its inception and raised about SEK 90 million since the start. Investors include Ellevio and 41:an Invest. Now, full focus is on internationalization as the system has its demand all over the world.

We are still early in our journey but the potential is huge. These three years our growth has been high but we anticipated it to continue in the coming years” says John Diklev.
